FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Sophomores Iñaki Montes and Jeffrey von der Schulenburg and senior Gianni Ross are all competing this week at the Legacy Bank NWA Tennis Series tournament, an  ITF World Tennis Tour 15k event in Fayetteville, Ark.

All three players advanced out of qualifying to earn a spot in the main draw.

Montes was the top seed in the qualifying tournament. He topped Avery Zavala 6-1, 6-1 in the opening round and outdueled fellow Spaniard Oscar Pinto Sansano in Tuesday’s qualifying final 3-6, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (2). He battled fellow qualifier Radu Mihai Papoe for a  7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-4 victory in the opening round of the main draw.

Von der Schulenburg was the 2-seed in qualifying. He defeated Carles Hernandez 6-2, 6-2  in the opening round and Noah Schachter 6-3, 6-3 in the qualifying final. He won 6-4, 7-6(4) against  Tadea ParouIek in the opening round of the main draw.

Von der Schulenburg and Montes faced one another in the Round of 16, with von der Schulenburg picking up the 6-4, 6-1 victory to advance to the quarterfinals. Von der Schulenburg’s run came to an end in the quarters where he fell 6-1, 6-3 against the tournament’s No. 7 seed Mark Whitehouse of Great Britain.

Ross is the 11-seed and topped Jake Sweeney 6-1, 6-3. He topped four-seed Charles Broom 6-3, 6-3 in the qualifying final. He faced the tournament’s No. 2 seed, 2019 NCAA singles champion Paul Jubb in the opening round of the main draw, being edged 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The qualifying draw includes 32 players vying for eight spots in the main draw.
