Cavaliers Conclude Play at the Kitty Harrison Invitational
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior Amber O’Dell and UVA newcomers Sara Ziodato and Nicole Kiefer competed at the Kitty Harrison Invitational Friday through Sunday (Sept. 24-26) in Chapel Hill, N.C. North Carolina.
Iowa State, William & Mary, Auburn, Duke, Northwestern, Old Dominion, Wake Forest, Kansas, Princeton, LSU, Charlotte and Florida all sent players to the tournament.
On Friday, Amber O’Dell won the opening match of her bracket against Nina Geissler of LSU, 4-6, 7-5, 12-10, but fell in the quarterfinals against Thasaporn Naklo of Iowa State. Nicole Kiefer and Sara Ziodato both dropped their first matches, but rebounded with wins in their second including a 6-1, 6-0 win by Ziodato against Bente Spee of Florida.
Saturday’s play was a round of singles and a round of doubles. Amber O’Dell and Sara Ziodato partnered up, but were topped by a team from Northwestern. The Cavaliers dropped all three singles matches.
In Sunday’s conclusion, O’Dell and Ziodato won their doubles match against Florida’s Emily De Oliveira and Bente Spee 6-4. Ziodato also won in singles, downing Michelle Sorokko of Princeton 2-6, 7-5, 10-4.
