CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  Three members of the Virginia men’s tennis team competed as individuals at the Third Annual River City Tennis Open in Richmond, Va.

Sophomore Alexander Kiefer and graduate students Jefferson Dockter and Jackson Allen played singles in the tournament which ran  Oct. 8-10 at the Collegiate School Williams-Bollettieri Tennis Center. Admission is free.

On the opening day of the tournament, Alexander Kiefer won both of his singles matches in straight sets including a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory against  Yevhen Sirous of Radford. Jackson Allen won his opener against Younes Lalami of Old Dominion but was edged in his second match. After rain washed out the second day of action, all three played a lone singles match on Sunday to wrap up the action. Kiefer picked up his third win of the tournament, topping Matisse Bobichon of VCU 6-1, 6-3 to improve to 6-0 in singles this season.

Allen was playing in the top flight of the tournament while Kiefer competed in the second-ranked.

The River City Tennis Open, whose tournament director is UVA Men’s Tennis alum and Richmond head coach Houston Barrick. In addition to raising funds for local youth charities, they are collecting any tennis gear. racquets, balls, short court nets, anything tennis-related to be distributed to local youth organizations.
