LANCASTER, Pa. – No. 9 Virginia men’s squash (9-5, 4-1 MASC) is set to compete in the Mid Atlantic Squash Conference Championships over the weekend in Lancaster, Pa. The Cavaliers will open the tournament against No. 23 Dickinson (3-9, 0-4 MASC) on Friday (Feb. 4) at 5:30 p.m. The Hoos will then take on No. 15 MIT (6-6, 1-2 MASC) on Saturday (Feb. 5) at 11 a.m.

The tournament will feature all six of the MASC member schools which have been divided into two pools for the first stage of competition. Pool A will consist of Virginia, Dickinson and MIT. Drexel, Franklin & Marshall and Navy will make up the second pool. Teams will face off with each member of their pool once.

Following pool play, the two group winners will compete for the MASC Championship. The second-place teams in each pool will compete for third place, while the teams who finish last in pool play will compete for fifth place.

NOTING VIRGINIA

  • Virginia is ranked No. 9 in the latest CSA rankings
  • Virginia finished the season with a 4-1 record in MASC play
  • All four of the Cavaliers’ conference victories were 9-0 sweeps
  • Virginia is the only team to claim the MASC title in the conference’s two full seasons with back-to-back wins in 2019 and 2020.
  • The Cavaliers come off a 9-0 win over Dickinson to close out the regular season
  • The Hoos finished the season with an unbeaten record at home (6-0) for the second time in program history
  • Aly Hussein enters the competition on a nine-match win streak with a 12-1 record on the season

  • The Red Devils finished the season with a 3-9 record overall and a 0-4 record in MASC play
  • The Cavaliers are 4-1 against Dickinson all-time after a 9-0 win at home over the Red Devils in the final match of the regular season

NOTING MIT

  • MIT is ranked No. 15 in the latest CSA rankings
  • The Engineers finished the season with a 6-6 record and a 1-2 record in the MASC
  • MIT comes into the tournament having competed in just one match since December 5, 2021, when they edged Amherst by a score of 5-4.
  • Virginia is 4-0 against the Engineers all-time after the Hoos took down MIT in a 9-0 sweep at the McArthur Squash Center this season
