CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  Beginning this Friday, 16 of the top Division I Women’s Tennis teams will converge in Madison, Wisconsin for the 35th annual ITA Division I National Women’s Team Indoor Championship.

A PlaySight live stream, as well as Tennis-Ticker live scoring, will be available for every match at the 2022 Division I Women’s Indoor Championship.

As a single-elimination tournament, teams will play one match each day with the Championship Match being played on Monday, February 14, at 12 p.m. CST. However, all teams will still be guaranteed to play at least three matches over the weekend through either the main or consolation draw.

Virginia is the No. 7 seed in the draw and will face unseeded Florida in the opening round. Reigning 2021 NCAA National Champions, Texas, will enter the 2022 Indoor Championship as the No. 1 seed. Just behind Texas is second-seeded North Carolina who will look to defend their 2021 ITA National Women’s Team Indoor Championship after they took down Texas 4-3 to secure their second consecutive Indoor Title last year.

The top eight teams are seeded 1-8 with the remaining eight teams assigned an opponent through a draft by the top eight seeds.

Virginia will face either North Carolina or Ohio State in Saturday’s second round.

VIRGINIA’S SCHEDULE

  • Friday, 11: 10 am ET vs No. 13 Florida
  • Saturday, Feb. 12: 10 am either in winners or consolation bracket
  • Sunday, Feb. 13: time and opponent TBD
  • Monday, Feb. 14: 1 p.m. Championship match

VIRGINIA AT ITA INDOORS

  • Virginia earned its spot in this year’s field by picking up a 4-3 win against No. 16 Stanford during ITA Kickoff Weekend
  • The Cavaliers are looking for their first ITA National Team Indoor championship
  • This is UVA’s 10th appearance in the prestigious tournament (1993-94, 2011-16, 2020) and return to the field after not making the tournament last season
  • Last year’s field was eight teams instead of 16 because of COVID-19 modifications
  • In 2020, the Cavaliers opened the tournament having to face defending champion Georgia in the opening round, falling 4-2. The Cavaliers picked up a 4-3 win against Arizona State in the finale
  • The Cavaliers hosted the championship for five straight years from 2011-15 at the Boar’s Head Sports Club

  • Virginia is ranked No. 7 in the ITA Rankings
  • The singles and doubles rankings have been updated for the first time this spring. Natasha Subhash remains the top-ranked Cavalier in singles at No. 28. She is 4-0 in dual matches and 14-5 overall
  • Elaine Chervinsky has won the last two ACC Freshman of the Week awards. She moved up to a No. 54 singles ranking and is a perfect 6-0 in both singles and doubles this spring
  • Hibah Shaikh is also undefeated in singles in dual matches at 4-0
  • Emma Navarro is 3-0 at No. 1 singles
