CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s basketball team (3-21, 0-14 ACC) hosts Duke (15-9, 6-8 ACC) on Thursday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. at John Paul Jones Arena.

NOTING THE CAVALIERS

  • Thursday is the Cavaliers’ Play 4 Kay game, uniting players, coaches, and fans to do something for the greater good that far exceeds wins and losses on the court. The ACC-wide initiative honors the legacy of the late Kay Yow and helps raise breast cancer awareness and all women’s cancers. The first 500 fans will receive a special pink Virginia Women’s Basketball t-shirt. Fans are encouraged to pink-out the game

  • Valladay ranks seventh in the ACC in assists per game at 3.5
  • Mid-season UConn transfer Mir McLean just missed getting her second straight double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds against Miami after scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds at Wake Forest
  • McLean has four straight games scoring in double figures and has done so in five of the seven games she has played in
  • London Clarkson scored a career-high 11 points at Wake Forest and then contributed 10 against Miami, the first time she has scored in double figures in back-to-back games. In the last three games, Clarkson is averaging 9.3 points per game and is 12-of-14 from the free throw line
  • Eleah Parker has 36 blocked shots so far this season. She is 10 shy of breaking into the program’s top-10 list for blocks in a single season

SCOUTING DUKE

  • Duke has been ranked as high as No. 15 in the AP poll this season but is currently unranked
  • The Blue Devils are in 10th place in the ACC at 6-8

  • Shayeann Day-Wilson leads the team in scoring at 12.7 points per game; Celeste Taylor is also in double figures at 10.6. Taylor leads the team in rebounding at 5.8 per game
  • Duke Head coach Kara Lawson and Virginia head coach Tina Thompson were teammates on the US gold medal-winning team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics
