SEATTLE, Wash. –  Sixteen of the top Division I Men’s tennis teams are set to meet in Seattle from February 18-21, to compete for the 2022 ITA Division I Men’s National Team Indoor Championship. The University of Washington serves as event host, with action taking place at both the Nordstrom Tennis Center and Seattle Tennis Club.

The No. 7 Virginia men’s tennis team (5-3) opens play on Friday, Feb. 18 by taking on No. 4 TCU (8-1) at 12 p.m. Eastern Time at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.

The ITA National Team Indoor Championship is a single-elimination event, but all participating teams are guaranteed three matches. Ohio State, Baylor, Tennessee and Florida are the No.’s 1-4 seeds.

CAVALIER NOTES

  • Virginia is the No. 12 seed in the championship; TCU is the 5 seed
  • The winner of Friday’s match will advance to take on either Florida or Texas in the quarterfinals at noon ET on Saturday (Feb. 19)
  • Virginia played at TCU last Sunday (Feb. 13), falling 4-1. Jeffrey von der Schulenburg scored the lone point for the Cavaliers with a straight-set win on court four
  • Sophomore Chris Rodesch, who is 13-4 in singles this season, is ranked No. 17 to lead the Cavaliers. Rodesch and William Woodall are ranked No. 22 in doubles
  • Senior Ryan Goetz and sophomore Iñaki Montes are right next to one another in the singles rankings at No. 29 and 30. Montes is 8-1 overall and 2-0 in duals
  • Goetz and Montes are 7-1 as a doubles team this season including a 4-1 record in dual matches
  • The Cavaliers have won six ITA National Team Indoor Championships, including four-straight from 2008 to 2011 and most recently in 2017 when the tournament was held in Charlottesville. Only Stanford (12) and UCLA (7) have won more team indoor titles
