CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s basketball team (5-20, 2-15 ACC) plays its final game of the 2021-22 regular season when it hosts No. 18 North Carolina (21-5, 11-5 ACC) on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. at John Paul Jones Arena.

NOTING THE CAVALIERS

  • The game is Virginia’s Senior Night game. Three grad students, Eleah Parker, Tihana Stojsavljevic and Amandine Toi, as well as four senior managers will be recognized before the game at approximately 6:40 p.m.
  • Virginia looks to close out the regular season with their third straight win after topping Duke last Thursday, 67-54, and Pitt on Sunday, 74-65
  • The Cavaliers scored a season-high 74 points against the Panthers, shooting over 50.0 percent for the first time this season (51.2 percent, 22-of-43)
  • Virginia has been tied in rebounding or outrebounded its opponent in each of the last seven games including going +2 against the ACC’s top-rebounding team, Pitt
  • This is the final game of the regular season for the Cavaliers. They have their scheduled bye on Sunday, Feb. 27, which is the final day for the other 14 teams in the ACC
  • Taylor Valladay led the charge against Pitt with a 30-point game, scoring 25 of those points in the second half. It was the first 30 point game by a Cavalier since Nov. 2019 and the highest single-game total by a UVA player this season
  • Valladay has scored in double figures in each of the last four games, averaging 17.0 in that span
  • Valladay is averaging 11.6 points per game in ACC contests. She averaged 6.7 points per game in non-conference games
  • Valladay also had seven assists against Pitt. She ranks sixth in the ACC in assists per game (3.7)
  • Mir McLean has scored in double figures in each of the last six games
  • McLean leads the team in rebounding at 8.2 per game and is tied for the team scoring lead with Amandine Toi at 12.0 points per game
  • McLean does not have enough appearances to qualify for the conference leader board, but if she did, she would rank fifth in rebounding
  • Toi scored a season-high 21 points in the win against Duke. In the last three games, she is 6-of-8 (75.0 percent) from three point range in the last three games and has made her last five attempts
  • London Clarkson has had four straight games of scoring in double figures, averaging 10.7 ppg in that span. She was averaging 3.6 points per game before the streak
  • McKenna Dale grabbed a season-high eight rebounds and four blocked shots against Pitt, playing a season-high 30 minutes. Dale, who is averaging 2.7 points per game and 2.3 rebounds per game, averaged 6.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in the two victories
  • Eleah Parker has 36 blocked shots so far this season. She is 10 shy of breaking into the program’s top-10 list for blocks in a single season
  • Parker has 269 career blocks. She ranks 4th among active players in blocked shots and is 10th among active players in blocks per game at 2.45

SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA

  • North Carolina knocked off No. 3 Louisville last Thursday, winning 66-65, and then topped Florida State 64-49 on Sunday
  • UNC’s win against Louisville was its first ever in ACC play (the Cardinals had won eight in a row in the series) to register the team’s highest-ranked win since 2019
  • Sunday’s game was the Tar Heels first win against FSU since the 2014-15 season and first win in Tallahassee since 2013-14
  • Deja Kelly was named the ACC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, averaging 22 points in those two games
  • Kelly is fourth in the ACC in scoring at 16.3 points per game
  • Alyssa Ustby is fourth in the ACC in rebounding (8.7 per game) and eighth in steals (1.73)
  • UNC leads the ACC and is sixth in the nation in field goal percentage defense with opponents making 34.4 percent of their shots
  • UNC is also sixth in the nation in scoring margin at +19.2
  • North Carolina closes out the regular season on Sunday at home hosting Duke
  • North Carolina leads the all-time series 55-34
  • Virginia has lost the last four overall meetings. UVA’s last win was an 82-70 victory in Charlottesville in 2018
  • North Carolina won the first meeting of the season 61-52 on January 20 in Chapel Hill
