Kerry Smith - Swimming & Diving - Virginia Cavaliers

Kerry Smith joined the Cavalier swimming and diving program as an assistant coach in January 2014. Smith works primarily with the middle distance stroke/IM group.

Smith came to Charlottesville after spending a year and a half as an assistant coach at Wingate University from 2012-13. At last year’s NCAA Division II Championships, Smith helped guide Wingate’s women to a fifth-place finish, while the men placed sixth. The Bulldog women broke all but three school records during the time Smith was on staff.

Before Wingate, Smith was an assistant at Truman State University, where she mentored seven student-athletes to the 2012 NCAA DII Championships.

Before Truman State, Smith spent one year as the head women’s swimming coach at the Acadmey of Notre Dame de Namur in Villanova, Pa., and five years as an assistant with the Upper Main Line YMCA club program in Berwyn, Pa.

Smith graduated from Penn State in 2005 with degrees in both marketing and advertising/public relations. Smith was a team captain for the Nittany Lions her senior year and helped lead PSU to Big Ten Championships in 2002 and 2005. She earned the Nittany Lion women’s squad’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award in 2005.
