CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — University of Virginia golfer James Driscoll has been selected to participate in the CVS Charity Classic at the Pleasant Valley Country Club (par 71, 7,110 yds.) in Sutton, Mass., on July 23-26. Driscoll received a sponsors exemption and is one of two amateurs participating in this PGA tour event.

An honorable mention All-America this past season, Driscoll has had an eventful summer. He travelled to Japan in late June and helped leadO the United States to a 43-17 win over Japan in the 23rd Annual U.S./Japan Matches, a competition that pitted a team of eight male and four female U.S. collegiate all-stars against a squad of Japanese collegians. He finished third with a 5-under par 211, one stroke behind co-champions Bill Lunde (UNLV) and Ben Curtis (Kent State).

Last week, the Chestnut Hill, Mass., native defeated Joe Keller to win the Massachusetts State Amateur for the second time in three years.

Driscoll, a rising junior from Chestnut Hill, Mass., was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection for the second consecutive season this past spring. He led the Cavaliers with a 72.45 stroke average, the second-best average in school history.

The CVS Charity Classic will be televised live on the Golf Channel. Tomorrow’s first round and Friday’s second round will be televised beginning at 3:00 PM. Saturday’s third round and Sunday’s final round will be televised beginning at 2:00 PM.
