MONROE, La. – The University of Virginia softball team broke a four-game losing streak, defeating host Northeast Louisiana in a doubleheader at Lady Indian Field. The Cavaliers won game one 6-1, before taking the nightcap by a score of 4-1.

Stacey Zagol started on the mound for UVa in game one. She pitched a complete game, allowing one run on two Indian hits while striking out eight batters. The Cavaliers recorded eight hits in the game led by Meaghan Young (2-3, 2 RBI, 2 runs). Beth Crimi (1-2) hit her fifth double of the year, while Amy Peay (1-3, 1 RBI), Corinne Good (1-4, 1 RBI), Stacy Holmes (1-4, 1 RBI), Karen Breshears (1-4) and Gina McCabe (1-3) each added singles in the win.

In game two, Cory Bolkan pitched five innings for UVa and scattered five hits before being replaced by Zagol in the sixth inning. At the plate, Virginia recorded a season-high 12 hits, led by Breshears (3-4, 2 RBI) and Crimi (3-4, double). The duo accounted for half of UVa’s total hits. Young (2-4) continued her outstanding hitting, while Holmes (1-4, 2 runs), Peay (1-2, 1 RBI), Mariruth Graham (1-3) and Lori Reese (1-4) each added singles in the victory.

The sweep improves Virginia’s record to (11-12) overall. The Cavaliers will travel to Rustin, La. to face Louisiana Tech on Friday, (March 13) in a doubleheader. Game one is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
