CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA — UVa’s fall sports are now all open and in action . No site changes for home events are anticipated yet because of University Hall maintenance. The year to date record is 42-8-3(82.1%).
CROSS COUNTRY: Coach: Randy Bungard, second season at Virginia, record: 0-0. 1997-98 record: 0-0. Last week, UVa ran at the Paul Short Invit.(men 17th; women sixth). This week, UVa is idle.
WOMEN’S SOCCER: Coach: April Heinrichs, third season at Virginia, record: 32-14-5. 1998 record: 7-3-2. Last week, UVa played at VCU(1- 1 tied) and in the Lady Vol. Classic(Tennessee 4-3 won, Vanderbilt 4-0 loss). This week, UVa plays Maryland(Fri., Oct. 9, 7:00 PM , away) and Tulane(Mon., Oct.12, 4:00 PM, Klockner Stadium).
FIELD HOCKEY: Coach: Melissa Sanders, sixth season at Virginia, record: 77-39. 1998 record: 7-3. Last week, UVa played Maryland(3-2 won) and VCU(tomorrow). This week, UVa plays VCU(tomorrow), Davidson( Fri., Oct. 9, 2:00 PM, U-Hall Turf Field), and Georgetown(Wed., Oct. 14, 4:00 PM, U-Hall Turf Field).
VOLLEYBALL: Coach: Melissa Aldrich Shelton, fourth season at Virginia, record: 65-51. 1998 record: 14-2. Last week, UVa played Clemson(3-0 won), Georgia Tech(3-1 won ), and North Carolina(today). This week, UVa plays North Carolina(today), NC State(Sun., Oct. 11, 3:00 PM, away) and Maryland(Tue., Oct. 13, 7:00 PM, Memorial Gym) .
