Womack Takes Leave of Absence from Football
April 23, 1999
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — University of Virginia football player Antwoine Womack has taken a leave of absence from the team.
“I believe it’s important for Antwoine to take some time away from the football team,” Virginia head coach George Welsh said. “He needs to focus his attention on his academic and personal life without the demands of football. Antwoine, the Dean of Students office and the Department of Athletics will work together closely to help him resolve all outstanding issues by the beginning of the next academic year.
“Antwoine will remain on grant-in-aid, but will not participate in any team activities even though he is eligible to do so by University and NCAA rules.”
