CLAREMONT, Calif. – Virginia men’s tennis player Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) has reached the quarterfinals of the Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center USTA Pro Classic on the Futures Tour. On Thursday, Devvarman won his second round match, defeating Daniel Wendler, ranked No. 661 in the world, 7-5, 6-2.

Devvarman, who enters the fall ranked No. 12 in the ITA collegiate rankings, will play Honia Tecau in the quarterfinals on Friday. Tecau, the tournament’s No. 2 seed, is currently ranked No. 361 in the world and has already won a Futures Circuit singles tournament this year.

The USTA Futures Tour is a professional tour designed for players building their professional careers. Current college players are allowed to play on the tour to gain experience and improve their ranking, while not accepting prize money.
