Dallas, Texas – – Junior left-hander Casey Lambert was one of 30 players named to the NCBWA Stopper-of-the-Year Award Watch List. The award will be given to the top relief pitcher in Division I college baseball.

Lambert posted a single-season Virginia record, 14 saves in 2005 while going 1-3 with a 2.81 ERA while making 27 appearances.Lambert topped his previous single-season record in 2005 and now has a school record 22 saves, which also ranks fourth all-time in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

It is Lambert’s second preseason honor as he and Sean Doolittle were both named to the All-ACC second team by SEBaseball.com.

A mid-season release, including the national saves leaders, will beupdated during the week of April 17. At the end the regular season, the Division I leader in saves and four other relief pitching standouts will be selected as the award’s finalists. These finalists will be released on Wednesday, May 31, just prior to the beginning of NCAA regional play.From the list of finalists, the NCBWA’s All-America Committee will select a winner. The second annual winner will be announced on Wednesday, June 7, two days prior to the beginning of NCAA super regional action.

Virginia opens the regular season Friday when the Cavaliers play The Citadel at noon in the first game of the Springmaid Beach Resort Tournament.
