Myrtle Beach, SC – Junior Eamonn McLoughlin posted the best single-round score of his career to help the Virginia men’s golf team finish ninth at Coastal Carolina’s General Hackler Invitational at the TPC of Myrtle Beach.

McLoughlin carded a 4-under 68 during Monday’s final round to finish fourth overall at 2-under 214. The Hackler Invitational was McLoughlin’s best tournament outing in terms of both finish and 54-hole score. His final score tied as the best single-round effort during the 54-hole tournament. North Florida’s Mike Giammaresi also shot 68 during the final round.

Paced by McLoughlin’s effort, Virginia shot 2-over 290 over the final 18 holes. It was the third best team score of the day in the field of 15 teams. The Cavaliers moved up three spots to ninth with a final score of 892. East Tennessee State ran away from the field with a 10-shot victory at 867. Coastal Carolina was second at 877. Only six strokes separated the teams that finished between third (Pepperdine, 887) and 10th (North Florida, 893).

McLoughlin was not the only Cavalier to post a top-10 finish. Daniel Kefale shot even-par 72 during the final round to place eighth at 2-over 218.

Carter Henderson shot 1-under 71 to finish 34th for the Cavaliers at 226. Conrad Von Borsig was 67th at 235 while Brad Tilley finished 69th at 237. John Fizer, playing as a non-scoring individual was 73rd at 239.

Pepperdine’s Alex Coe took medalist honors by finishing at 6-under 210. East Tennessee State’s Rhys Davies was second at 211.

The Cavaliers return to South Carolina for their next tournament March 26-28 for the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Charlestown.
