CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Virginia junior men’s tennis player Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) continued his strong play at the ITA Mideast Regional, reaching the singles semifinals Saturday at the event held at the University of North Carolina. In addition, Huey teamed with freshman Lee Singer (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) to reach the doubles semifinals of the event.

In singles, Huey, seeded No. 6, open the day by topping David North of Georgia Tech, a No. 17-32 seed. Huey rallied from dropping the first set for a 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-1 win. Later the day, he topped No. 3 seed and defending champion Martin Sayer of Radford in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (2). He will meet No. 2 seed Harel Srugo of Old Dominion in the semifinals Sunday.

In doubles, Huey and Singer, seeded No. 10, scored an 8-6 win over No. 15 seeded Lenny Gullan and Alex Stone of North Carolina in the quarterfinals. On Sunday, the duo will meet the No. 3 seeded team of Alex Cojanu and Colin O’Brien of William & Mary in the semifinals.

Play concludes at the event on Sunday.
