MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Virginia men’s swimming and diving team completed the first day of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at the Minnesota Aquatic Center. The Cavaliers scored 12 points on the first day and are in 19th place.

Pat Mellors (Pittsburgh, Pa.) produced the highlight of the first day for the Cavaliers with his seventh place finish in the 200 Individual Medley. He swam 1:45.61 in the finals after posting a 1:44.99 in the preliminaries to break his own school and ACC record for the second time this season.

In the 500 free, John Millen (Lilburn, Ga.) took 31st place with a time of 4:24.24.

The meet continues Friday and runs through Saturday on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
