Austin, Texas – The No. 2 Virginia men’s tennis team suffered its second consecutive loss as it fell to No. 12 Texas in Austin, 4-3. The loss marks the first time this season that the Cavaliers have suffered two consecutive defeats and drops their record to 14-3 on the season. Texas improves to 9-5.

Texas opened the match by winning the doubles point. The No. 3 team of Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) and Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) defeated Josh Zavala and Dimitar Kutrovsky 8-4 to win at No. 1 doubles. However, the Longhorns won at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to claim the opening point.

In singles action, Devvarman defeated Kutrovsky, 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 1 position to draw the Cavaliers even in the overall team score. But Texas went on to win at the No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 positions to clinch the match. Ted Angelinos (Athens, Greece) and Lee Singer (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) both captured victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions for the Cavaliers to complete the scoring.

Virginia returns to action on Friday, Mar. 23 when it travels to Raleigh, N.C. to take on NC State. The match can be viewed on ACC Select.
