Virginia Women's Tennis Downed By No. 9 Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 49 Virginia women’s tennis team closed out the road portion of its 2007 schedule with a 7-0 loss to No. 9 Miami Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The loss evens the Cavaliers’ overall record at 8-8 as they fall to 2-5 in the ACC. Miami improves to 15-3, 6-1 in the conference.
Miami swept all three doubles matches and all six singles matches in the contest. In singles, the nation’s top ranked player Audra Cohen defeated Jennifer Stevens (Miami, Fla) at the No. 1 position. No. 38 Audrey Banada topped Maggie Yahner (Las Vegas, Nev.) at No. 2 singles. At the No. 3 position, Romy Farah defeated Brintney Larson (Orchard Park, N.Y.). Gina Sabatino topped Amanda Rales (Bethesda, Md.) at No. 4 singles. No. 16 Laura Vallverdu was victorious at No. 5 singles against Lindsey Pereira (Arlington, Texas) and Caren Seenauth won over Caroline Hammond (Williamsburg, Va.) at No. 6 singles.
Virginia will close out the regular season with a four-match homestand. That homestand begins Saturday, April 7 when the Cavaliers host Maryland. Match time is noon.
