Holly Springs, NC – Virginia sophomore Daniel Kefale turned in the best tournament score by a Cavalier this season to finish ninth overall at NC State’s Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate at Devil’s Ridge Golf Club in Holly Springs, N.C. Kefale equaled his best single-round score this year, shooting 69 Saturday, to move up 20 spots on the leaderboard to his ninth-place finish. His 54-hole score of 1-under 215 bettered his previous outing this year by four shots. He had rounds of 71 and 75 during Friday’s first two rounds.

Virginia finished the 15-team tournament in eighth place with scores of 286, 296 and 293 for a 54-hole total of 875.

Kefale was not the only Cavalier golfer rewriting his record book.

Greg Carlin also shot a season-low, carding a two-day total of 217 to finish 17th overall, his best finish in a tournament this season. Carlin had a 74 Saturday after turning in scores of 72 and 71 Friday. His 54-hole total crushed his previous best tournament score by five shots and it was the second time in his career he posted a top-20 finish.

Conrad Von Borsig improved to 30th overall at 221 with a 1-over 73 during the final round. Kyle Stough was 44th at 223 while Eamonn McLoughlin was 75th at 231.

Charlotte won the tournament by two shots at 852. Tulsa was second at 854 and Duke was third at 862. Tulsa’s Mitch Cohlmia, who shot 64 during the second round, took medalist honors at 8-under 208. Charlotte’s Jonas EnanderHedin was second at 209.

Virginia competes at the ACC Championships April 20-22 in New London, N.C. before hosting the Cavalier Classic at Birdwood Golf Club April 28-29.
