CHARLOTTESVILLE The Virginia men’s tennis team has named seniors Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) and Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) as its captains for the 2007-08 season. It marks the second consecutive season that both players have served as captains.

“Treat and Somdev are the best co-captains a team could ever have,” said head coach Brian Boland. “When they first arrived at UVa three years ago, they were somewhat quiet and introverted. However, over time they have evolved into incredible leaders, setting great examples for our other players. While it is rare in our sport for a player to put his team’s success above his individual goals, both Treat and Somdev repeatedly do this. We are very lucky to have them as part of our program with the exciting year ahead.”

This fall, the duo has combined to form the nation’s top doubles teams. Ranked No. 1 in the preseason, Devvarman and Huey have gone 13-0 during the fall season. They also became just the third doubles team to win both the ITA All-American Championship and the ITA National Indoor Championship in the same year.

In singles, Devvarman, the reigning NCAA Champion and preseason No. 1 ranked player, went 13-1 and won the ITA National Indoor title. Huey, ranked No. 13 in the preseason, had a 7-1 singles record.
