CHARLOTTESVILLEThe Virginia men’s basketball team plays its third Atlantic Coast Conference road game in its first four conference games on Tuesday (Jan. 20) when the Cavaliers play at the University of Maryland.

The Cavaliers enter the game with Maryland with an overall record of 7-7 and a 1-2 mark in the ACC after losing their last two games, including an 83-61 loss to nationally-ranked North Carolina at the John Paul Jones Arena last Thursday (Jan. 15).

Freshman guard Sylven Landesberg continues to lead Virginia in scoring with an average of 17.3 points a game. Also averaging in double figures in scoring for the Cavaliers are sophomore forward Mike Scott (11.6 ppg.) and freshman guard Sammy Zeglinski (10.8 ppg.). Scott is shooting 57.4 percent (66-115) from the field and leads UVa in rebounding with an average of 8.9 a game. Zeglinski leads the Cavaliers in three-point field goals made (25) and assists (55, 3.9 apg.).

As a team, Virginia is averaging 74.9 points a game and allowing an average of 72.1 points a game.

Maryland is currently 12-5 overall and 1-2 in the ACC after a 76-73 overtime loss at Florida State last Saturday (Jan. 17). The Terrapins are 10-1 at home this season.

Maryland has three players averaging in double figures in scoring led by junior guard Greivis Vasquez at 17.1 points a game. Vasquez also leads the Terrapins in assists (84, 4.9 apg.) and rebounds (105, 6.2 rpg.). Other players averaging in double figures in scoring for Maryland are junior forward Landon Milbourne (12.3 ppg.) and sophomore guard Adrian Bowie (10.6 ppg.). Junior guard Eric Hayes is averaging 9.9 points a game for the Terrapins.

As a team, Maryland is averaging 72.5 points a game and allowing an average of 62.7 points a game.

Maryland leads the series with Virginia 102-67 and the Terrapins lead 58-21 in games played in College Park. The Cavaliers are 2-4 in games played at Maryland’s Comcast Center.

After the game at Maryland, Virginia returns home to play Florida State at John Paul Jones Arena on Saturday (Jan. 24). Saturday’s game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and will be televised on the Regional Sports Networks (Comcast SportsNet in Virginia).
