CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia track and field teams will head to Princeton, N.J., this weekend to compete in the ECAC/IC4A Championships. Events will take place at William Weaver Track and Field Stadium and will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday and conclude with the 4x400m relay at 3:05 p.m. on Sunday. The Cavaliers, coming off back-to-back second place finishes at both the ECAC and IC4A Championships the past two years, will send five champions from last year’s event to compete this season. Senior All-American Yemi Ayeni has won the last three IC4A discus titles, while senior All-American Billie-Jo Grant won the ECAC discus last year and the 2006 shot put title.

Sophomore Stephanie Garcia won the 3000m steeplechase last year, while junior Ayla Smith won the 400m hurdles. The men’s 4x100m team of sophomore All-American Meikle Paschal, sophomore Adams Adulrazaaq and former Cavaliers Conlon Bonner and Reuben Jones won the relay title.

Following the weekend, the Cavaliers will take a week off before heading to the 2009 NCAA East Region Championships in Greensboro, N.C., on May 29-30. Twenty-seven Cavaliers have qualified to compete in the regional championships.
