Q&A with Jennifer Stevens

This week the Virginia women’s tennis team concludes the regular season this weekend with a pair of matches at the Snyder Tennis Center. The No. 31 Cavaliers host No. 25 Georgia Tech Saturday at noon and No. 8 Clemson Sunday at noon. Virginiasports.com caught up with senior Jennifer Stevens to discuss her final home matches this weekend, her Virginia career, and her outlook for the remainder of the season.

Question: What are your thoughts this week as you prepare for the final two home matches of your career?

Stevens: Both teams, Georgia Tech and Clemson, are good, so these are two good opportunities for us. It’s hard to believe that these are my last matches here and Sunday is my senior day. It seems like it has gone by quickly.

Question: When you look back at your career, what are some of the memories you have?

Stevens: A lot of the great wins we have had, especially the 4-3 wins. All of those 4-3 wins that we have pulled out have been exciting and it was great to be a part of those.

Question: As the postseason approaches, what are the goals for this team?

Stevens: I think our goal has been all season to make it to Athens (for the NCAA round of 16). My parents just moved to Augusta, Ga., so it is close to them. It would be a great opportunity for us and it would be great to close my career playing there.

Question: How has this season been different for you as the only senior on a team that is almost completely freshmen and sophomores?

Stevens: I have enjoyed it. I like meeting new people and the new players have come in and adjusted quickly. When they come to me for advice, I try my best to tell them what to expect since for a lot of them it is there first time playing ACC matches, or next week it will be there first ACC Tournament.

Question: What will your thoughts be this weekend when you play your final matches at the Snyder Tennis Center?

Stevens: It is going to be great. I am excited to play. Hopefully we can have a good crowd come out and support us and hopefully we can wrap up the regular season with a couple of wins. That would mean the most to me.
