BOCA RATON, Fla. – Two members of the Virginia men’s tennis team are among the eight players selected to compete in a new US Open Wild Card Playoff. Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga.) and Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel Fla.) will compete for a main draw wild card at the US Open in this tournament, held August 18-20 at the USTA Training Headquarters in Boca Raton.

Jenkins, a rising sophomore, has had a strong summer playing on the USTA Pro Circuit, rising to a career-high No. 736 in this week’s ATP rankings. He reached the finals of the Rochester Futures, the quarterfinals of the Decatur Futures and the second round of the Lexington Challenger.

Domijan, who will be a first-year at UVa in 2010-11, is ranked No. 580 in this week’s ATP rankings. He has reached the semifinals of two Futures Tour events this year, along with the quarterfinals of six other Futures Tour events. He also was the only amateur player to compete in World Team Tennis this summer.

Joining Jenkins and Domijan in the field are fellow college players Chase Buchanan (Ohio State), Steve Johnson (USC) and Austin Krajicek (Texas A&M). Young American pros Andrea Collarini, Ryan Harrison and Tim Smyczek round out of field.
