CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia first-year tennis player Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) was named ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. Domijan, the nation’s No. 2 ranked singles player, helped the Cavaliers win their unprecedented fourth consecutive ITA National Team Indoor Championship this past weekend.

Domijan went 4-0 at No. 2 singles in the tournament, defeating four top 50 players in straight sets. He defeated No. 42 Kyle McMorrow in Virginia’s first round win over host Washington, topped No. 33 Johnny Hamui in the quarterfinal victory over Illinois, downed No. 21 Chase Buchanan in the semifinal win over Ohio State and clinched the championship match with his win over No. 17 John-Patrick Smith of Tennessee.

In doubles, he teamed for the first time with Michael Shabaz (Fairfax, Va.), going 3-1 at No. 1 doubles. The duo recorded wins over the No. 6 and No. 24 ranked teams.

The award is the first of Domijan’s career and the third for a Cavalier this season. Shabaz has been honored twice earlier this season.

The Cavaliers will be off for two weeks before opening their outdoor season on Mar. 9 as they visit LSU.
