CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia softball team announced its fall schedule Thursday that includes three scrimmage dates against familiar opponents. The Cavaliers open fall ball Sunday against Longwood with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at The Park.

Virginia will also head to George Mason Oct. 7 for a 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. doubleheader in Fairfax, Va., before concluding the fall schedule at home against Delaware State on Oct. 16. Those games will be played at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. in Charlottesville.

“The weather this fall has been conducive to a lot of swinging,” Virginia head coach Eileen Schmidt said. With Yolanda (McRae) joining our staff it actually has been a blessing. The schedule itself this fall is pretty compact and great competition. It will give the staff an opportunity to get some athletes significant playing time and experience against competitive programs.”

Schmidt begins her fifth season at the helm of her alma mater. She returns 13 letterwinners from a year ago, including eight starters. The Cavaliers also have four newcomers on the roster.
