CHARLOTTESVILLE — Virginia junior Jarmere Jenkins reached the second round of the main draw of the Virginia National Bank Men’s Pro Tennis Championships, a stop on the ATP Challenger Circuit at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. It marks the third consecutive year the Cavaliers have had an active player win a main draw match, joining Sanam Singh (2009 quarterfinalist) and Michael Shabaz (2010 finalist).

Jenkins, who reached the main draw with three wins in qualifying, topped world No. 273 Pierre-Ludovic Duclos of Canada in the first round, 6-2, 7-5. He will face third-seeded Bobby Reynolds, ranked No. 120 in the world, in the second round on Thursday.

Also advancing to the second round of singles is Virginia alumnus and No. 1 seed Somdev Devvarman. In doubles, the team of Treat Huey and Dominic Inglot reached the quarterfinals, as did Michael Shabaz, teamming with Jack Sock.
