CHARLOTTESVILLE-Virginia Sports Properties, a division of CBS Collegiate Sports Properties, the multi-media rights partner of the University of Virginia athletics department, announced today that former Cavalier basketball player Ted Jeffries has joined the Virginia Sports Network. Jeffries will serve as analyst with play-by-play announcer Dave Koehn on Virginia broadcasts during the 2011-12 men’s basketball season.

Jeffries is currently the director of development for the Ridley/Alumni Interest Groups with the University of Virginia Alumni Association. Prior to joining the Ridley/Alumni Interest Groups, he was an assistant director with the Virginia Athletics Foundation for three years.

Jeffries started 127 of the 129 games he played in during his four seasons (1990-93) in the Virginia program. A 6-9 center, he averaged 6.4 points (821 points) and 6.1 rebounds (787 rebounds) a game during his career.

As a senior captain during the 1992-93 season, Jeffries averaged 10.3 points and 8.0 rebounds a game and made 51.6 percent (130-252) of his field goal attempts.

During Jeffries’ time in the Virginia program, the Cavaliers participated in the NCAA Tournament three times and won the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) in 1992. Virginia reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in 1993 and the second round in 1990.

Jeffries graduated from Virginia in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in rhetoric and communication studies.

Following graduation, Jeffries played professional basketball for eight years in Asia, Europe and South America. After his playing career, he was an assistant men’s basketball coach at Coastal Carolina for two years and at William and Mary for one year.

“I am very excited about this opportunity as the analyst for men’s basketball games on the Virginia Sports Network and look forward to working with Dave Koehn,” Jeffries said. “As a former player at UVa, an eight-year professional basketball player overseas and a former Division I assistant coach, my goal is to assist in providing an informative and entertaining broadcast.”

Jeffries replaces former UVa player Cory Alexander as analyst on the Virginia men’s basketball broadcasts. Alexander has been the analyst on the broadcasts for the last three seasons.

“We’re pleased to have Ted Jeffries join our broadcast team,” said Kyle Denzel, general manager of Virginia Sports Properties. “We are also appreciative of the contributions Cory Alexander made to the network during his three years as analyst. We wish him well with his television broadcasting work and as he pursues a career in college basketball coaching.”

Virginia’s 2011-12 men’s basketball season begins on Nov. 13 when the Cavaliers host South Carolina State at John Paul Jones Arena.
