CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia junior tennis player Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga.) was named ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. Jenkins led the Cavaliers to a pair of come-from-behind road wins last week.

Jenkins, ranked No. 8 nationally, had key singles wins in Virginia’s 4-3 wins at No. 12 Mississippi State and No. 16 Ole Miss. In Starkville, the Cavaliers’ match with the Bulldogs was tied 3-3 with Jenkins’ match remaining. He rallied after losing the first set to defeat No. 27 Artem Ilyushin, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 to clinch the Virginia victory. The following day in Oxford, Jenkins was one of four Cavaliers to rally from losing the first set to post three-set wins, giving UVa a 4-3 win over the Rebels. He defeated No. 46 Marcel Thiemann, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in that match.

It is the second weekly honor of Jenkins’ career, as he was honored once earlier this season.

The third-ranked Cavaliers host three matches this weekend. On Friday, Virginia plays No. 35 Oklahoma at the Snyder Tennis Center at 3 p.m. The Cavaliers have a doubleheader on Saturday, hosting Boston College at 1 p.m. at the Snyder Tennis Center and Eastern Kentucky at 6 p.m. at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. Admission to all home tennis matches is free.
