CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia junior tennis player Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga.) was named ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. Jenkins led the Cavaliers to a pair of top-20 road wins last week.

Jenkins, ranked No. 7 nationally, had singles wins in Virginia’s 4-3 win at No. 6 Duke and 6-1 win at No. 20 North Carolina last week. He clinched the win over the Blue Devils by defeating third-ranked Henrique Cunha 7-6, 6-1 in the last match on the courts. Two days later he posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over No. 34 Jose Hernandez, a 2011 All-American for the Tar Heels.

It is the third weekly honor of Jenkins’ career, as he was honored twice earlier this season.

The third-ranked Cavaliers return home on Friday as they host Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons are led by first-year head coach Tony Bresky, who spent eight years (2003-10) as an assistant with the Cavaliers. Match time at the Snyder Tennis Center is set for 3 p.m.
