CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—Virginia volleyball rising senior Emily Rottman and redshirt junior Mallory Woolridge have been named co-captains for the 2013 Virginia volleyball season, head coach Dennis Hohenshelt announced Monday (May 20).

“I am excited for both Mallory and Emily,” Hohenshelt said. “This spring they have demonstrated the leadership qualities that we expect our captains to have. I put a lot of responsibility on our captains and believe that both are ready to handle all that comes with being a leader of the UVa volleyball program.”

Rottman, a native of Santa Barbara, Calif., played in 31 matches as the Cavalier libero in 2012, logging 490 digs, the 10th-most in UVa history. A 2012 co-captain, Rottman tallied 4.38 digs per set, the sixth-highest percentage in program history and will enter her senior season with 1,229 career digs, the ninth-most in school history.

A native of Glen Allen, Va., Woolridge missed the 2012 due to injury, but was back in action as a middle hitter in spring practice with the Cavaliers. In 2011, Woolridge set career highs with 166 kills and 81 blocks in 28 starts. In two seasons, the 6-3 Woolridge has averaged almost a block per set (0.90 bps).
