CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia softball team will travel to Conway, S.C., this weekend to play in a tournament at Coastal Carolina Feb. 15-16. This tournament replaces UVa’s originally scheduled event at UNC Greensboro that was cancelled due to winter-weather conditions in Greensboro, N.C.

The Cavaliers (1-4) will play Purdue at 11 a.m. on Saturday before facing the host Chanticleers at 5:30 p.m. Virginia will matchup with Towson Sunday at noon.

Virginia opened the season last weekend at the Upstate Classic in Spartanburg, S.C., winning one out of five games. Senior Marcy Bowdren (Fairfax Station, Va.) went 4-for-10 and was named to the all-tournament team, while freshman Iyana Hughes (Manteca, Calif.) hit .333 (5-for-15).

Purdue is 1-2-1 on the season after defeating Texas as part of the Louisiana Classic last weekend in Lafayette, La.

Coastal Carolina is 2-0 on the campaign after sweeping a part of games against the College of Charleston Feb. 8-9.

Towson was also a part of the Upstate Classic last weekend, but did not face Virginia. The Tigers went 3-1, picking up wins over Youngstown State, Eastern Michigan and North Carolina Central.

Up next, the Cavaliers travel out to the West Coast to take part in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic Feb. 20-22 in Cathedral City, Calif.
