AUSTIN, Texas–The Virginia men’s swimming and diving team completed action on the first day of the NCAA Championships Thursday (March 27) at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

Sophomore JB Kolod (Pittsburgh, Pa.) placed 23rd with a total score of 315.60.

In the 500 free, seniors Jan Daniec (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Brad Phillips (Herndon, Va.) placed 43rd and 49th in 4:22.97 and 4:26.41, respectively.

Sophomore Luke Papendick (Kinnelon, N.J.) finished 51st in the 200 IM in 1:47.23, while Nathan Hart was 56th in 1:49.67.

Both the 200 free and 400 medley relays were disqualified.

The action continues Friday (March 28) with the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, 3-meter diving and 800 free relay events being contested. Prelims begin at noon, while the finals are scheduled for an 8 p.m. start. Times are Eastern.
