ATLANTA – The fourth-ranked Virginia men’s tennis team extended its win streak to eight matches with a 7-0 victory over No. 64 Georgia Tech Saturday at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. The Cavaliers (17-2, 8-0 ACC) remain the only team undefeated in conference play this season, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 7-11 overall and 1-7 in the conference.

“We were pleased with the overall effort today,” said associate head coach Andres Pedroso. “We were coming off a tough match yesterday, but the guys rebounded well and were sharp, both mentally and physically. We tried a new doubles lineup again today and it worked well. Hopefully we will solidify our doubles lineup in the coming weeks. In singles, we came out and won all the first sets and continued to play well.”

The Cavaliers took an early lead by winning the doubles point. Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.) and Jordan Daigle (Lafayette, La.) topped Will Showers and Colin Edwards 8-2 at No. 3 doubles. The opening point was clinched at No. 1 where Mitchell Frank (Annandale, Va.) and Justin Shane (Falls Church, Va.) teamed for the first time and downed No. 23 Eduardo Segura and Carlos Benito 8-4. Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) and Harrison Richmond (Pawleys Island, S.C.) completed the sweep with an 8-5 win at No. 2 over Nathan Rakitt and Cole Fiegel.

Virginia continued its strong play in singles, winning all six matches in straight sets. Justin Shane was first off the courts, posting a 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 over Showers. Luca Corinteli (Alexandria, Va.) followed with his 6-2, 6-2 victory over Edwards at the No. 6 position. Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.) clinched the win when he topped Fiegel 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

Kwiatkowski defeated Benito 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles and Domijan downed Rakitt 7-5, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to extend the lead to 6-0. Frank completed the sweep with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 2 over Segura.

The Cavaliers will return home next week for their final two regular season matches at the Snyder Tennis Center. Virginia will host NC State on April 11 and Wake Forest on April 13.
