Oct. 2, 2014 TULSA, Okla. – The Virginia men’s tennis team had two players advance to the second round of singles during the first day of main draw play of the ITA All-American Chamopionships at the University of Tulsa. Junior Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.) and sophomore Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.) both posted straight-set first round wins on Thursday.

Shane made his season debut with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Diego Galeano of Baylor. He will meet No 9-16 seed Roberto Cid of USF in the round of 32 on Friday.

Kwiatkowski, who reached the main draw after three wins in qualifying, remained unbeaten this fall with a 7-6(5), 6-4 win over A.J. Catanzariti of Texas A&M. He will play No. 6 seed Winston Lin of Columbia in the second round.

The tournament continues Friday and runs through Monday at the Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa.
