CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia redshirt senior Nick Sulzer (Cleveland, Ohio) has been named the initial ACC Wrestler of the Week, as announced by the league Tuesday. Sulzer shares the award with NC State heavyweight Nick Gwiazdowski and Pitt 184-pounder Max Thomusseit.

Ranked No. 2 nationally at 165 pounds by Intermat, Sulzer is off to a 10-0 start this season, including a championship at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 6. As part of his five wins in Las Vegas, Sulzer earned decisions over 12th-ranked Cooper Moore of Northern Iowa and ninth-ranked Taylor Walsh of Indiana.

Of Sulzer’s 10 victories this year, seven have been by major decision, technical fall or fall.

Sulzer’s win over Walsh in the championship match in Las Vegas was his 100th career victory, as he moved into a ninth-place tie in the program’s annals.

Sulzer and the 10th-ranked Cavaliers travel to Bucknell Saturday for a 2 p.m. dual.
