CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s tennis team announced Monday that senior Mitchell Frank (Annandale, Va.) has been named captain for the 2015 season. It marks the second consecutive season that Frank has been a team captain.

“Mitchell is well deserving to be named team captain by his peers,” said head coach Brian Boland. “He has the humility. experience and passion for his teammates to be a great leader for us in the upcoming year. Mitchell has a tremendous work ethic on and off the court and does an outstanding job representing our program. Everyone is excited for him to be in the leadership role.”

Frank is a two-time ITA All-American and three-time All-ACC honoree. He has been ranked as high as No. 1 nationally in singles and clinched the 4-3 victory over UCLA in the 2013 NCAA Tournament final to deliver Virginia its first national championship. Also a standout in the classroom, Frank was the 2014 ACC Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

The Cavaliers open the dual match season on Jan. 23-24 with the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The event, which serves as a qualifying tournament for the 2015 ITA National Team Indoor Championships, features four teams competing at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. Virginia plays No. 54 George Washington in the first round on Friday and will play either No. 39 Louisville or No. 51 VCU on Saturday.
