CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-The Virginia softball team travels to Apex, N.C., this weekend (Feb. 13-14) for the Eagle Challenge hosted by NC Central at Middle Creek Park. The Cavaliers will play Omaha (1 p.m.) and Delaware State (3:15 p.m.) on Friday and will face NC Central and Omaha on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3:15: p.m., respectively.

The Cavaliers went 1-4 in Tempe, Ariz., last weekend at the Kajikawa Classic. UVa defeated UTEP, 14-5, in five innings, but fell to BYU, Stanford, Utah Valley and Wisconsin.

Sophomore Madison Labshere (El Cajon, Calif.) leads the team with a .462 batting average and three home runs. Labshere and freshman Allison Davis (Oak Hill, Va.) tie for the team lead with six RBI each, while junior Aimee Chapdelaine (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) has five. Davis and Chapdelaine each hit grand slams in the opening weekend.

Omaha (2-3) defeated Alcorn State and Nicholls State last weekend at the Tangi Tourism Lion Classic in Hammond, La., but fell to Southeastern Louisiana, UT Martin and UT Arlington. It will be the first time the Cavaliers and Mavericks have faced off.

Delaware State (0-5) dropped five games last weekend at the Pirate Classic in Greenville, N.C. UVa holds a 7-1 all-time advantage against the Hornets, including two shutouts, 8-0 and 2-0, last season in Charlottesville.

The Cavaliers defeated NC Central (0-0), 8-1, on the opening day of the 2014 season in Spartanburg, S.C. Saturday’s game will be the second all-time matchup between the two programs.

Next weekend, Virginia travels to Orlando, Fla., to take part in the Citrus Classic Feb. 20-22.
