CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia field hockey team had four players named to the 2014 Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA National Academic Squad. The entire Cavalier team was also honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches’ Association with the 2014 Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA National Academic Team Award, the fourth-straight year the squad earned that distinction.

The Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2014-15 academic year. Two of Virginia’s four athletes named to the squad – seniors Jenny Johnstone (Paisley, Scotland) and Jess Orrett (Wells, Somerset, England) – earned the honor for the fourth time in their careers. Freshman Carrera Lucas (Brooklandville, Md.) earned her first career honor.

Freshman back Becca Zamojcin (Phoenixville, Pa.) was named to the National Academic Squad as well as earning the SGI/NFHCA Scholar of Distinction honor for having a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2014-15 academic year.

The Cavaliers were one of 67 programs this year to have a team GPA of 3.0 or higher, earning them the Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA Academic Team Award.
