UVa Golfers Return to Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate

Charlottesville, Va. – The 22nd-ranked Virginia men’s golf team returns to play this weekend at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event runs Sunday through Tuesday at the par-72, 7,282-yard Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C.
The 15-team field features Auburn, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Duke, GRU Augusta, Kentucky, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Virginia, Wake Forest, Winthrop and Wisconsin.
The Gamecocks are the top-ranked team in the field, coming in fifth in the latest Golfstat rankings. Auburn, the defending tournament champs, are ranked 10th this week.
The Hoos lineup includes seniors Denny McCarthy (Rockville, Md.) and Ji Soo Park (Clifton, Va.), sophomores Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) and freshman Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.).
Bard currently leads the team with a 70.61 stroke average while McCarthy is right behind him at 70.70.
In its last outing, Virginia finished fifth at the Seminole Intercollegiate, led by Bard’s seventh-place effort. Last year the Cavaliers placed fourth at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate. David Pastore led UVa with an eighth-place finish.
During Sunday’s first round, Virginia will be paired with Wake Forest and New Mexico and will tee off starting at 10:50 a.m. from the No. 1 tee. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
