Cavaliers Open Play at Tar Heel Invitational in Seventh Place

Chapel Hill, N.C. – The 12th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team is in seventh place following the first 18 holes of play at the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. Virginia shot 9-over 297 during the opening round. Seventh-ranked Duke leads the 18-team field at 3-under 285 while second-ranked Alabama is four shots behind the Blue Devils.
Virginia was led by junior Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) who shot 1-over 73 to finish the first round in 13th place. Senior Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill.) and freshman Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) are tied for 28th place at 74. Senior Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, Va.) and sophomore Lyberty Anderson (Chesterfield, Va.) both shot 76 and are in 47th place.
Michigan State’s Katie Sharp leads the field at 4-under 68 while Duke’s Leona Maguire is in second place after shooting 69.
The second round of the tournament is set for Saturday and the final round will be played Sunday. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
