JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-The Virginia women’s track and field team finished action at the NCAA East Preliminaries Saturday (May 28) at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.

At the preliminary meet, each individual event (excluding the heptathlon and decathlon) has 48 competitors, while relays have 24 teams. The top 12 from every event move on to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, to be held in Eugene, Ore., on June 8-11.

The women’s 4x400m relay team of juniors Heather Smith (Chesapeake, Va.) and Andrea Wright (Chesapeake, Va.), senior Peyton Chaney (Belleville, Ill.) and junior Chimere Ezumah (Chatham, Va.) placed 20th in 3:40.55.

Freshman Emily Mulhern (Ijamsville, Md.) finished 24th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:48.99.

In the shot put, junior Christine Bohan (Avon Lake, Ohio) placed 25th with a throw of 15.35m (50′ 4.5″).

Junior Cleo Boyd (Kingston, Ontario) will be the Cavaliers’ lone competitor at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Boyd will race in the 10,000m on June 9.
