GREENSBORO, N.C.—Virginia senior swimmer Leah Smith has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Female Swimmer of the Week, the ACC announced Thursday.

Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa.) opened the 2016-17 season with two individual wins against Pitt last Friday (Oct. 21). She broke the Aquatic and Fitness Center pool record in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 9:23.79, which leads the nation by 20 seconds and is the fastest dual-meet time in NCAA history. Smith then won the 500 free in a time of 4:39.25, another AFC pool record.

It is Smith’s fourth ACC weekly nod of her career. She and the Cavaliers will be in action Nov. 4-5 against Michigan and Penn State in a two-day double-dual meet in Charlottesville.
