ATHENS, Ga. – Virginia men’s tennis senior Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.) and junior Collin Altamirano (Sacramento, Calif.) are competing at the 2017 NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles Championship, being held May 24-29 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
Kwiatkowski began play with a first-round match on Wednesday (May 24) against Julian Cash of Oklahoma State, advancing with a 6-4, 6-4 win. Kwiatkowski will face Daniel Valent of Vanderbilt on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the Round of 32.
Altamirano fell 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to David Biosca of East Tennessee State on Wednesday in the first round and was eliminated from the tournament.
Kwiatkowski and Altamirano were at-large selections selected to the 64-player singles field. All singles players must have a minimum of 13 completed singles matches, with six matches in the spring, in order to be selected as an automatic qualifier or an at-large selection.
This is the third time Kwiatkowski will be competing in the NCAA Singles Championship while Altamirano will be competing for the second time.
