LYNCHBURG, Va. – Both of the Cavaliers’ doubles teams have advanced to the second round after winning their opening-round matches on Friday (Oct. 20) at the ITA Atlantic Regional, being held at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.

Junior Aswin Lizen (Douglas, Isle of Man) and freshman Matthew Lord (Bloomfield, Conn.) defeated Liberty’s Diego Castano and Alexander Poynter, 8-5, in their opening match. The duo will take on George Mason’s 11 Daniel Gutierrez and Pally Ray in the Round of 16 on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Quarterfinal doubles matches will take place immediately following on Saturday morning.

Redshirt freshman Ammar Alhaqbani (Alexandria, Va.) and freshman Jefferson Dockter (Atlanta, Ga.) picked up an 8-6 victory over Mount Saint Mary’s Jackson Wood and Brandon Wortkotter on Friday. They will face Delaware’s Dustin Britton and Curran Verma on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Dockter advanced in the singles draw, picking up a 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Liberty’s Diego Castano in the Round of 128. Dockter earned a spot in the main draw by winning two matches on Thursday to advance through qualifying. He will face Temple’s Juan Araoz on Saturday in the Round of 64.

Lord, Alhaqbani and Lizen all had first round byes in the singles main draw and will begin competition on Saturday in the Round of 64. Ahaqbani faces Virginia Tech’s George Cartledge at 10:45 a.m. Lord will play George Mason’s Edward Ayers at 12:30. Lizen will take on Penn State’s Gabriel Nemeth also at 12:30.

In other action on Friday, freshman Jerome Romualdez (Manila, Philippines) fell 6-4, 6-4 to Andrew Ong of Duquesne in a consolation singles match.
