Recap | Final Stats

Virginia Head Coach Joanne Boyle
Opening Statement:
“We were excited to start the ACC season at home and this win was a great start for us. There are still things that we need to get better at, but this was a good start. I felt at times tonight we got a little stagnant and we didn’t finish well. Hopefully we can clean that up before Sunday. I am excited about where we are and what we can build on moving forward.”

On Dominique Toussaint‘s offensive presence:
“I think Dom (Toussaint) does a good job. She has a good feel for the game, so when it is her time to score, she’ll find a rhythm in her scoring. When she feels like her shot is not on or we are looking for something else, she can distribute it. You look at players in the conference and, to me, she is one of the most complete guards in the ACC. A lot of times we match her up on the defensive end with the opponent’s best offensive player. She has a tall task, but she’s solid. She’s been playing well. If her shot doesn’t fall, there are other things she can be doing for us on the floor.”

On the success of Virginia’s goal to work the ball inside more:
“If you look at the stat sheet, she [Felicia Aiyeotan] was 5-for-6 so she shot the ball well and Lauren [Moses] was 1-for-3, with probably not as many touches. So, the more we can get touches inside and those guys can make decisions about whether to shoot the ball or kick it out, it’s always a better offense for us. I felt at times tonight we got a little stagnant and we didn’t finish well. Hopefully we can clean that up before Sunday.”

On being 1-0 in ACC play and the momentum this win brings:
“It is always nice to be at home, especially two games at home, to begin our conference schedule. We just talked about protecting our home floor. We have eight games on the road, eight here, and the whole point is to protect the home floor, so it was good to come out with a win tonight.”

On shooting 16-of-18 from the free-throw line:
“That was really good because that is the one area we have been trying to improve on, and we spend a lot of time shooting free throws and running when we are tired, so, hopefully it will continue to pay off.”

Sophomore Guard Dominique Toussaint
On being 1-0 in ACC play and the momentum this win brings:
“It is definitely a confidence booster. We are just supposed to keep it rolling from here. We are lucky to play at home for our first two games, and I really think that is going to help us going into the ACC season.”
