CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia volleyball outside hitter Sarah Billiard (Matthews, N.C.) added another Atlantic Coast Conference award in her freshman campaign, earning All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team honors on Wednesday (Jan. 31).

“Sarah has been a great representative of this program and I’m very proud of how she has started her career,” said head coach Aaron Smith. “Sarah is passionate about her sport, her education and this university. I’m excited to follow her development and see what other exemplary things she will accomplish, as she has only scratched the surface of her potential.”

The academic award comes two months after Billiard was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team following her first season with the Cavaliers. She finished 2017 second on the team with 2.84 kills per set, a mark that ranks ninth all-time among Virginia freshmen.

Billiard racked up a total of 213 kills to rank third for the Cavaliers. She also finished the year second on the team with double-digit kills in 12 matches.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
