#1186

The Cavaliers and the city of Omaha have a very special relationship. #UVABase employs the hashtag #1186 as a motto and a motivator, reminding themselves how many miles it is from Charlottesville to their adopted sister city, the home of the College World Series. Omaha has always loved and embraced the Hoos. Former #UVABASE All-American Matt Thaiss demonstrated how deep those connections go. His Salt Lake Bees, Triple-A affiliate of the Angels, were in town to play the Omaha Storm Chasers, so he reached out to invite Deputy Chief Ken Kanger, one of the many members of the Omaha Police Department that the team befriended while there, and players in the PACE Athletics program to come to a game. PACE is the Police Athletics for Community Engagement, offering free athletics to at-risk youth, encouraging self esteem, discipline and positive police relations. The tweet below sums it all up!!!

In other #UVABase news, head coach Brian O’Connor, another favorite in Omaha, is the featured guest on this week’s American Baseball Coaches Association podcast. This is a fascinating and in-depth interview spanning all 25 years of his career. Baseball fans need to give this one a listen.
